Let's dive into the deep insights and powerful lessons Justin imparted during this enlightening conversation.
## The Power of Dreams
Justin emphasizes the importance of dreaming big and envisioning the life you desire. He highlights that the size of your dream is directly proportional to the magnitude of the struggle you may face. By nurturing and holding onto your dreams, you set the stage for your journey towards success.
## Embracing Struggles
Struggles are an inevitable part of the journey towards fulfilling your dreams. Justin encourages individuals not to shy away from struggles but to see them as stepping stones towards victory. ## Moving Towards Victories

By mastering the art of speaking, individuals can effectively convey their message and create a lasting impact on their audience.

Hello, my name is Paul Neustrom and I have the podcast called Skyrocket to Success. And today I'm honored to have Justin Prince on the podcast. Justin, welcome. How are you doing today? Paul, what an honor to be on with you, man. Thank you for thanks for the invite. Thanks for having me. You bet. I just reached out to you, I don't know, about a month ago. And I saw your Instagram reel with your family that showed what you've been doing for the last year. It was like 2023 and your reel just really caught me. And I thought, Oh my gosh, this guy. It looks like he has an amazing life. And then I dove into, your story and read your book called be the one, and I just, I think you have one of the best stories I think I've ever heard or read or anything that, so why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself and open up the podcast and maybe a little bit about your journey. Yeah. First of all, man, I appreciate that. Thank you very much. And man, if you keep saying these nice things, you'll be you'll be the keynote speaker at my funeral. So you're you're top of the list right now with all these nice things. But I come from a middle class family and from Salt Lake City, Utah. My dad, when we married my mom, I'm Had my older sister, older brother. And so I was my mom's oldest yet. They had four kids together. They got divorced when I was 12. I moved in with my single mom and we moved 13 times in the seven years through the teenage years. So we're bouncing around, through those years. And I have no professional background. I was making pizzas. I was doing construction work. I worked at a mall kiosk selling animated Bible videos at a mall kiosk. What I did have though, and my guess is a lot of your audience has, as they're listening to this is I had a lot of heart and a lot of dreams and goals and I, I was willing to work, and so I started my first business at 25 at this point, my wife and I had, we were married and our little boy is about a year and a half old approximately and. I wanted to make that little boy proud of his dad. I wanted to make my wife proud of me. I had no college education. I was like, I'm going to go for this thing. And the long story short, the business fails. I'm below zero financially. I'm back on credit cards. I'm back on taxes. I'm put into a situation where we moved my pregnant wife and are now two kids into the loft of my wife's parents garage. So Paul, I have my two kids sleep in the closet, my wife and I sleep in this little loft area. I now pick up two part time jobs to, stay afloat financially. One I did during the week, one I did during the weekends and then I started another business to chase the dream to be free, and my guess is some of your listeners can relate to this. There's many nights I thought to myself. It's one in the morning, it's pitch black. I'm laying there in bed. I say to my wife, are you awake? And she goes, yeah, she goes, you like, oh, yeah, I go. Am I crazy? Am I chasing a fake dream? Is this ever going to actually happen for us? Is this ever going to be real for us? And in that process, I ultimately figured that business out, and ended up selling that business when I was 29. I did private equity consulting when I was 30 to 32. And then at 32, I came into a company that was a transition business. We had a, we had to do a turnaround situation. So there was a company with a 25 year old company. It had eight years in a row of double digit decline per year in revenue. And so we came in as a transformation team to turn this business around. So Paul, hardest thing to do in business is a turnaround because you've got all of the existing culture, existing complexities But then the second hardest thing to do as a startup, we did both at the exact same time. We were trying to like, like changing the engine of the 737 at 30, 000 feet. In that process we created a brand new brand, a brand new business model. And we went out and did about two and a half, just over two and a half billion in revenue, millions and millions of customers over the next, 10 plus years. And that was a really amazing experience, paid out over a billion in commissions to the folks that were sharing our products. And that led more to the speaking and the coaching and spoken now in 30 plus countries around the world. Just finished my book is, as you we mentioned before we started called Be The One. And the idea for me is this, it's really two parts. One, the one is success is an identity process. And once you realize that you're the one, you're the one. So Paul, if you think of your parents, You think of your grandparents, you think of your great grandparents. The last 12 generations was 4, 094 people. 4, 094 people from all over the world came together to create you. You are the one, and you're the one that these people lived for, and bled for, and cried for, and died for, and gave everything they had for us for you to have this moment, to be the one in your life. And you realize your life has value, and purpose, and meaning, and your life is significant. And then the second part is to be. It's not to become the one, you are the one, it's to be. To be is, such a present word. It's be the one today. So I wanted to write a book that hopefully motivates and inspires, but what I really wanted to do is write a book that teaches. And it teaches how you can be the one in every care of your life that creates and designs and lives an unforgettable life where future generations look up into their family lineage and they say, it was him. Or it was her, she's the one that our family changed forever because of her, and they're telling your story. So that's kinda what led, to our discussion today is, that book and ultimately this, success story. And, but I'm as hungry today to serve people and as hungry today to add value as I've ever been and to remind people who they really are, they are the one for their family. That's awesome. Justin, one of the things that I was thinking after I read your book is that I see a lot online where people are trying to do this entrepreneur thing, and there's a lot of people that are pursuing it and, there's so much available as far as instruction goes, but I really see that probably 80 percent of the people are struggling, because for whatever reason, it's like they're trying to do it, but they're meeting indifference, resistance, and just here the last few days, I've been thinking that, as an identity, you speak about your identity, and determining that Is do we view ourselves individually does somebody look at themselves as just a follower or a leader and to determine yourself as a leader, you have to take leadership action. And I think that the focus on your book is really identifying that, what is it that I bring to the table? And what is it that I can do to make a difference, not only for my life, to get out of my in laws, upper garage, but where I can really help, change people's lives and change, do turnarounds with businesses. And but tell me about that, what brings to your thoughts and that whole subject. Yeah. That's such an interesting question. So check this out. John Maxwell wrote the foreword for my book. John Maxwell, Inc. magazine says, the world's foremost authority on leadership. So in the history of mankind, no one's written more leadership content than John Maxwell. So you ask this question, am I a follower or am I a leader? So here's a, an interesting way to think about it. When John was a young kid, he played sports. And his coach said to him one time, he said, John, he said, you're a leader. And John goes, why do you say that? You're just a kid. And he says, because people follow you. And my friends People follow you, if you're a mom, those babies are following mom, if you're a dad, those kids are following dad, that family is looking to you for leadership, they're looking to follow you. If you're an employee, you might have other people within the office or within the company that they look to you and they say, man, how are you reacting? And how are you showing up? And are you stressed out? Are you full of faith that we're going to get through this? So I think in our own way, we're all leaders, but I also think in our own way, We're also followers. The greatest leaders also know how to follow, right? How to take instruction, how to get good mentoring, good advice. There's some wisdom in the counsel of others. And so I think that we play both of those roles. And I think, the word humus, so I think a great leader would be humble, right? The word humble comes from the Latin word humus. Humus means organic, dark, rich, fertile soil. So a humble person isn't someone that has like downwards observing glances. And there's just so humble. No, a humble person. is wanting and willing and able to learn. They're looking to learn. So the soil is fertile. It's like seeds can grow. Seeds are looking to grow. They're wanting to grow. That's what a humble person is. And so I think as you think of a leader is wanting to grow, willing to grow. How do you do that? You learn from others. You can maybe follow others, but then also you're also influencing other people as well. And those are the people that you're leading. So it's a little bit of a, I think we're all a little bit of both, probably should be a little bit of both is we're taking good advice and counsel from those, in essence that we look to. And then we have people that are looking to us saying, Hey, lead me in the right direction. You know that night that you were awake and you mentioned over to your wife, am I just crazy? What was it? Was it hope that or vision or what was it that kind of moved you? To really pursue this and really go all in. Because there's a lot of people, I think that are in that same spot, that have been struggling, that kind of wanted to make it, and I look at the number of people that follow you. You've got a half a million people following you on Instagram, you have 150, 000 on Facebook, and those are just the two that I looked at, but, what is it that, that really clicked in your mind or the thing that, you know, where you reached a little deeper and there was this action that you took that maybe you didn't take before? Yeah. Great question. A couple of things I would share. The first thing is the foundation of your success is believing in yourself. So it's confidence. Do you have confidence in yourself? Now, here's what I want to share with you. What happens When you don't have a lot of confidence in yourself, you don't really know if you believe in yourself. One of the things you can do is you can rely on the confidence of others. My wife is you got this, you can do this. Like you can make it happen. So I relied on her confidence. We want to be careful how much weight we give to words. So if a three year old walks up to you and says you're stupid. Okay. Where's your mom? Whatever. It doesn't really affect you that much. If a 33 year old walks up to you and says, you're stupid, you're going to fail. Then all of a sudden it just, just lights you up. If you do a social media post and 18 comments and 17 are positive and say, Hey, great posts. And one says stupidest posts I've ever read. We spend time and fret on the one post. We give more weight to the one post in the 17. And so I was able to give weight. To the words of those that did believe in me that did see something special in me or did say, Hey, you can accomplish this. I gave more weight to their words than the people that said I couldn't. So that was the first thing. Second thing is I just kept casting out this vision of my life. I kept thinking to myself, I was almost like I was willing to take one or two steps backwards for three or four or five steps forward. So I was willing to go through the hustle, go through the grind, go through the challenge, go through the pain to say, There's a vision of my life that I want to eventually chase down. And vision is an interesting thing. Vision answers a question that everyone needs to have answered because we're all subliminally asking the question whenever we go through hard times. So right now, if you're going through a hard time in your marriage, your spouse is asking this. By the way, you're probably asking this question too. If you're going through a hard time with your child that's struggling with addiction right now, they're, Really going through some painful periods. You're asking this question and they're asking this question. If you're going through a hard time in your business, maybe revenue is down. It's a stressful time in the business. Maybe you've had to do some layoffs. It's a tough time. Everyone's asking this question. And the question is, will it always be this way? If the answer is yes, it will always be this way. People are going to make very different decisions than if the answer is no, we're going to get through this. Like the sun's coming up in the east. It's darkest before dawn. You're going to make it through this. This is happening for you right now. You're building the resilience. If you know it's not always going to be this way and you're the 15 year old kid struggling with addiction, you realize there's hope. If you realize that the marriage is not always going to be this way, there's hope. That hope provides this thing of okay, keep moving forward. And that's what I did. Let's say it was a left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot. And I, it sounds cliche, but I kept moving forward. Oftentimes, Paul, the direction is more important than the destination. So in other words, it's not necessarily that you arrive at the 30 pounds less. It's that you're moving towards the 30 pounds less. Maybe you're only three pounds less right now, but man you're going the right direction, building the right habits, building the right patterns. You're reassociating the way you think about food. You don't, you're able to control those binge. moments where you used to just just lose it. You don't lose it anymore. You're understanding what's happening. You're moving in the right direction. That progress can create the happiness and the momentum that you need. So that's the second thing is I just think the vision. And then the third thing I'd share with you is this I think that I had I, I kept pushing forward until I started getting at least what I would call a micro win. So like micro successes, like little glimpses that like, Oh, I'm getting better. I'm improving. My skills are improving. I'm moving the business forward. I'm getting a customer, I'm getting a new person to see the vision that I see and partner with me. So those micro wins. A mentor of mine used to say that results are the breakfast of champions. It's just you just start getting stringing some results together and you're I got this thing. Now they were micro, they were small at first they were small, but. Maxwell teaches a concept, I think, right? He says, you, you don't win and lose in, in business and in life. You win or learn. So if you win. If you learn, you win. So you're just, I kept learning and adjusting and adapting and getting better and improving. And so the next time I was even better. And the next time I was even better. And the next time I actually got the sale, the next time the sale stayed with me and the next time the person joined me and I just kept improving. And that results became the Breakfast of Champion that kind of keep you moving down that path where you say. I got this and it starts opening up the belief that you can do it. And then obviously that belief just feeds upon itself. And next thing you got a great business and a great life and the whole thing. The amount of vision that you have when you have that hope that things are going to get better. And I've asked myself here just in the last few days is how many people actually have that vision to where, it's almost what I call a championship mindset. And we just, last weekend we had the Super Bowl and I'm a huge Brock Purdy fan. I just think this guy is phenomenal and he's dialed in. He's so young, but he has the ability to make decisions and he has a focus that is just unheard of. But there's something that. I heard of that, that the morning of the super bowl, Patrick Mahomes went into the end zone. He kneeled down on one knee, like he always does. And he was visualizing making touchdowns and to where, he would be doing something that would honor God almighty, his father, and that he would be worthy to do a performance that would be exemplary and also a championship type of performance when it came down to the very end, you could see that hope that vision that locked in focus was just so far beyond it. I think Brock pretty is going to come up. But that testament is a state. So back to that night. What was the vision? What was the focus? What was that image that you had in your mind that carried you through? Yeah. But to, so just to illustrate your point, I would cast out a vision of what my life would look at, would look like, there's no, no question. That is literally what I did. I would think about it and I would, you'd smell it and you'd taste it and just be like, God, I want to get there. For me, it was just this vision that you didn't have any more of the credit card debt and the, Tax debt, you're back, you're squared up there. You, you weren't living in the loft above your wife's parents garage. You're living in your own, home. You didn't drive a white Toyota Corolla, 250, 000 miles in it, drove a car that you wanted to drive. And what was so interesting is all of those things started to happen, right? You didn't work two part time jobs. You're just grinding through those. I was able to get rid of the one job and then eventually able to get rid of the second job and eventually able to pay off all those credit card debt. And that was just like the big pressure off your shoulders. I was able to get all the tax debt paid off and caught up and more organized and better accounting and, better accounting teams. And then, we moved from that house that loft into a 5, 600 square foot luxury home. And I went from a white Toyota Corolla to a five series BMW and just all of those things were things that I originally thought of first. So George Bernard Shaw says that 2 percent of people think. 3 percent of people think they think, and 95 percent of people would rather die than think, and that is how most people are, they just don't ever think, they don't take time, in fact, they live an entire life of reacting to distractions versus a world of intentional creation, they're not creating it, the way you create it is your first, it's vision, humans are so interesting, one of the things that humans have, that separates them from like the animal kingdom, for example, is the ability to think and to cast vision. So in other words, you can almost see it first and then you can go create it second. So it's like a, it's like a spiritual creation, right? A creation like in your mind or in your spirit. And then it's a physical creation in reality where you're actually like living it and touching it and feeling it. And so one of the questions you want to ask yourself right now is like, What is your vision for one year, three year, five years? Like one of the things I do with coaching clients, I say this, I say, Paul, I said, imagine we have a whiteboard, you have dry erase marker, and anything you put on the board will happen. What does five years look like? That's the perfectly ideal situation. What does that look like? And people are like, I don't know. In fact, check this out. I've done this exercise with people. I'll say right on the board, all the things you don't want to have happen in the next, let's call it one year, three years, five years, right? So they cast out and people just, I don't want this, I don't want that. I wanted this. I, scroll this up and I say, all right, now let's talk about all the things you want. And it's just they just Oh crap, what I want, in other words, we're so focused on all the things that we don't want, the things we want to avoid that we're not focused on all the things that we do want and that we're looking to create and where your focus goes, your energy flows, your energy will flow to all the things that you don't want or that you want her to avoid versus all the things that you do want. And so for me, I was casting out this vision of this life and you want to know what's so interesting, Paul, is I look at my life today in, in many ways, and it's even bigger than I could have envisioned back then it was, but what happens is like when you, if you, those of you that have had this experience, if you go hike on top of a hill, or for some of you, if you do a hike on top of a mountain, and When you get to the top of the hill, when you get to the top of the mountain, you have a whole new vantage point to other peaks, to other things that you could, other hills or mountains that you could go climb. You're like, I couldn't, I didn't even know that was over there. You didn't know it was over there because you couldn't see it because you're, the things that were in between it. But once you get to the top, you start saying, I could go back down and go hike that one and go hike that one. And there's more things to do. That's what happens. Success kind of leads to a newer perspective of success. And you've heard that like the rich get richer. Part of that is true because there's a whole bunch of other reasons. Economic macro and economic reasons too. But part of that's true because. You realize the formula to get to the top of the one and you're like, Oh, there's more here we go. And you start stringing wins together. And my friends, here's the best advice I give you while you're at this moment. How do you create that momentum? First thing is bloom where you're planted. If right now you Make pizzas, be the best pizza maker that there is. If you sweep streets like Michelangelo paints. If you're, if you are you're working as a mid level, director level and you want to be at a high level executive level, go be the best mid level director level that anyone's ever seen. Be unforgettable, become irreplaceable, become the best at what you do. You do that. You bloom where you're planted. The opportunities open up to you to then string wins together. You start stringing one win to the next. And that's ultimately what I think happened to me. I just started stringing small wins, became bigger wins, became bigger, those bigger ones became really big wins over time because I just kept. Blooming where I was planted and just try and giving it all I had. A quick philosophy, Paul, I'll share this with you. This, I think, I've shaped my whole career on this philosophy. That you want to always do more than you're paid for as an investment in your future. Guess how often always is? Always is always. So always is not occasionally. It's not sometimes. It's not when it's convenient. It's not when you feel like it always is always. And you don't do what you're paid for. You do more. Most people don't do what they're paid for. You guys have seen this happen. They don't. They don't even work till five. They don't even put in the normal effort. Like you run sprints with the football team or the basketball team. And most of them just jog. Like they don't even do what they're paid for. You guys have seen this happen. So I'm not saying to do what you're paid for. That would make you special. I'm saying to do more than you're paid for. Why? Because you're investing in the person you were born to be. You're becoming this best version of yourself. You're truly blooming where you're planted and becoming the best version of who you are. You do that by always doing more than you're paid for, over delivering, under promising, over delivering, making things happen at a high level, you become so valuable to that business, but more specifically valuable to the marketplace and the marketplace will reward people to always do more than they're paid for as an investment in their future. Justin I'm working on a project and before we get to your last question is I'm working on a project that I'm excited about where I'm putting on a published speak and prosper summit and I've attracted two major influencers to partner with. One who's known as the affiliate guy, that's going to be able to bring hundreds of affiliates to promote the event. And then the second he's just a master publisher and to be able to promote people online and he's going to put on the event, the published speak and prosper is all about. How to level up your authority. And I just want to know how much did speaking have to do with your actual breakthrough, because you published a book, but what was the power of, and I know you're aligned with John Maxwell and you've spoken on a lot of stages, but what power and authority does speaking give you as an entrepreneur? Let's start here. We're all looking to communicate. Every entrepreneur is looking to communicate something. We're looking to communicate a message or a vision or a product or a service or why our service is better than the other service or why we're a better doctor than that, the doctor down the street, why you should pick me and do business with me versus someone else. We're all looking to communicate. And the, one of those great skills you need to learn is the skill of. Speaking, communicating your words, and doing it with the proper body language and voice inflection is the whole thing. And speaking has been instrumental in my business. It's something about, it's Paul, it's interesting about some I've always had passion. behind. I've always had interest in, even as a kid. And even when I gave a talk to two people, I really tried to do I prepared and tried to do a good job. And now I've spoken literally in 30 countries around the world and, to tens of thousands of people. And the whole thing has been an amazing journey, but learning to speak, learning to communicate, learning to take complex ideas and make them simple, learning to break things into stories. I tell people. Every point should have a story. Every story should have a point. And so learning to tell a story where people can understand what you're saying and remember I remember that story. I remember the, the mule that fell onto the well, or I remember the side of the road story. Like they have these stories that they'll remember that you've told. That is the way you move people. I don't remember who it was. It may have been Stalin. I can't remember who it was that said the pen is more, is mightier than the sword that may have been attributed to somebody else. But the point is it's the spoken word in their case that was writing, right? It's the spoken word. It's the power of the word and you can move people. You can create movements and communities and culture with the power of your words. And that's one thing you want to get great at is speaking. And by the way, I love those three. What was it? Publish. Speak and prosper. Yeah. Beautiful. Yeah. That's. That's, I love all three of those words. Those are great words and that's a really worthwhile, all three of those are very powerful concepts and verbs. And it's really publishing plus speaking is prospering. Yeah, exactly. So I'm excited to work on that. And, it's something that maybe we should talk about because I think you have a lot of the prosperity down. Final question. And that is, is what are you working on right now? That's got you excited. And tell us a little bit about your movement and where you're actually inviting people to come in and partner with you or something like that. To, maybe be mentored by you, but what are the things that you're actually doing that you're excited about and you want to share with people? Yeah, I appreciate that. So we, we launched my book, be the one last and the last fall became the best selling new release the bestseller list. Number one, bestseller list. And that book's been changing a lot of people's lives. And that's a book you can get at any, wherever you get your bookstore whether it's a, an audible version or Amazon or the bookstore. The second thing I would say is, I'm doing a lot more speaking, I'm in a new season of my career. And so I'm doing a lot more speaking and training and coaching. And that stuff that I do and I, so interesting, Paul, I feel like I. We all have kind of gifts and talents, right? And one of the things that you want to do is identify where do my talents, what are they? How do I maximize them? How do I share them with other people? How do I add value to people with it? One of my gifts and talents is when, is basically on a stage. It's I feel like I can connect and have conviction and move people in a way that's unique in a way that's unique to your gifts. And so I've been doing more of that and, my next really fired up for my next, kind of entrepreneurial journeys as well. But right now it's, really focusing on the books and the speaking and the, coaching and helping people to be the one in their life, to really go to that next level, to be the one that, that creates and designs and lives an unforgettable life. So it's been enjoyable to have Justin Prince on the podcast, Skyrocket to Success. And how can people get a hold of you, Justin? Yeah, so I'm across all social media platforms. You go to imjustinprince. com, imjustinprince on Instagram or justinprince on Facebook, for example, or LinkedIn, I put out a ton of content, and stuff that I think will really help you it's all free. And so it's video and written content that I think will really help you in your life to to be the one in your life, to live a significant life, to get hyper focused and to make some things happen. And if I can get connected on there, you don't have my podcast, the Justin Prince show, you can go check that out as well. Across basically all platform I'm there trying to to make a difference and to serve that next generation of leaders. And then the last bit of advice that you would have for those entrepreneurs that have been struggling or just don't know how, and what is the key or the thing that you would suggest to them to skyrocket to success? Yeah, so I'll just share this with you. There's the process is three steps. Super simple. There's dream, struggle, victory. Three steps. Dream, struggle, victory. The first lesson you want to remind yourself is they're all the same size. The dream is equal to or commensurate to the size of the struggle. The struggle is equal to or commensurate to the size of the victory. So what we want sometimes in life is big dreams, small struggles, big victories. It's the way we wish it worked. It's not how life works. Life's equal. And so if you have a big dream, you sign yourself up for a struggle equal to the size of the dream. And then the victories, the promise is equal to the size of the struggle. So here's what I want to share with you. Those of you that are in, you're finding yourself in the struggle section. You're I had a big dream and this is harder than I thought kind of thing. Listen, first thing is take good notes because people are going to relate more to your struggles than they will your victories. They're going to relate more to these challenges that you're facing. So remember this stuff, write this stuff down, do some video that, that shows the struggle season that you're in. That's the first thing. Second thing is this. Even though people will relate more to your struggle, the story of your struggle, your story is not the struggle. Your story is how you overcame the struggle. Don't let yourself hold on to the identity of the struggle. A lot of us are like, you don't understand what I've been through. We talk about the divorce, we talk about the bankruptcy, we talk about the abuse, we talk about the challenges. And I'm not saying those things aren't just So dramatic and challenging what you've been through. But remember, that's not the story. The story is how we overcame that stuff, how we worked through that stuff. That's how we get to the victory section. So don't get stuck here. Don't stop here. Don't stop in the struggle story. Your job is to progress into that victory story.'cause that's what we all want to hear. How did you make it through? How did you, what were the steps that you took? What courage was required to make this happen? You have a big dream. You're in the struggle section. Make it through the section. Don't let this become your identity. Your identity is not the struggle. Your identity is how you overcame the struggle into the victory section. That's what I'd share. Just keep moving forward. Have courage. Have faith. And ask yourself this question. What's the next physical step? What's the next physical step that you can take that will move you closer to your goal? Maybe for you it's responding to the email. Maybe for you it's saying I'm sorry. Maybe for you it's doing the video. Maybe for you, It's finally making that sales call that you need to make. Maybe for you, it's a follow up you need to go do. Maybe for you, it's going and having that tough conversation with that employee that you've been putting off forever. What's the next physical step that will move you closer to your dream, closer to your goal? Go do that next. Go take action and move towards the dream. The direction is more important than the destination. Amen. So it's been pleasurable to have Justin Prince on the podcast. And Justin, I thank you for your time today. Look forward to interacting with you in the future. Thank you, brother. I love being on with you. My pleasure. Thanks.
